Emirates NBD Egypt participates in COP27’s Green Zone through ‘Taproot’ project in collaboration with ButtonUp
Emirates NBD Egypt announces the participation of the Taproot project, in collaboration with ButtonUp, in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP27, held in the Green Zone in Sharm El-Sheikh from 6-18 November.
The Taproot project boosts the strategic partnership between Emirates NBD Egypt and ButtonUp, which falls within the framework of Egypt’s efforts toward mitigating the effects of climate change. Through the first phase of this partnership, the Sewing the Seeds project was executed to enhance women’s vocational skills in Izzbet Khairallah by helping them master sewing, embroidery and entrepreneurship. Sewing the seeds has successfully prepared 100 women to join the labor force and launch their own successful, profitable businesses.
Taproot offers locally grown solutions to mitigate climate change risks and support local communities’ environmental, social, and economic resilience by providing training on environmentally friendly industries to women and youth in Izzbet Khairallah.
The Emirates NBD-funded Taproot project, which is currently participating in COP27 to create innovative solutions devised by women and youth in Izzbet Khairallah. This project represents a concrete and scalable model of integrating local communities in solutions that address climate change through environmentally friendly industries, equally important, contribute to job opportunities for the youth and women in local communities.
“We are proud of the participation of Taproot project in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP27 in the Green Zone as the conference is a key platform that discusses the fate of humanity in light of the challenges of climate change,” Mohamed Berro, CEO of Emirates NBD Egypt says.
Berro added, “It’s important to take note that Egypt is hosting this year’s summit, which is very optimistic as it is expected to conclude with effective solutions to the challenges of climate change.
