ICT Minister, Latvian Ambassador Talk Cooperation in ICTs

 

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology (ICT) Amr Talaat has received the Latvian Ambassador to Egypt Andris Razāns.

 

They discussed enhancing Egyptian-Latvian cooperation in ICTs, especially digital capacity-building,

technological innovation and entrepreneurship, FinTech, and electronics design and manufacturing.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the significance of strengthening

bilateral relations between Egypt and Latvia and exchanging ICT experiences.

 

He highlighted that Egypt has a highly-qualified ICT talent pool, noting that Latvian companies

can benefit from these specialized Egyptian competencies.

Talaat referred to the Applied Innovation Center (AIC) established by the Ministry of Communications

and Information Technology (MCIT), which develops solutions to social challenges using modern

technologies. He highlighted the efforts made to support technological innovation and entrepreneurship

by establishing Creativa Innovation Hubs nationwide.

Talaat proposed that Latvian startups operate at Creativa Innovation Hubs and partner with Egyptian counterparts.

For his part, Razāns explained that the  sector is a major contributor to Latvia’s advancement.

He highlighted Latvia’s achievements in developing telecommunications infrastructure,

building digital capabilities, and growing its startup ecosystem, especially in quantum computing.

The meeting discussed establishing academic cooperation in cybersecurity. The two sides agreed

to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) later to outline the specific areas of cooperation.

The ICT Minister invited Latvian companies to visit Egypt and discuss investment opportunities

in the ICT sector. Talaat also invited the Latvian ambassador to visit Egypt University of Informatics (EUI)

to learn about EUI activities and discuss fostering cooperation with its Latvian counterpart.

The ICT Minister was pleased with the Ambassador’s invitation to visit Latvia to meet with

government officials and discuss ways to enhance ICT cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the ICT Minister

for International Relations Affairs

Khaled Taha and the Director of the Central Department of International Relations Samah Aziz.
