Jumia and Intella Unveil Egypt’s First Voice Shopping Assistant in Local Dialect

In a landmark event that drew top technology leaders in Egypt, Jumia Egypt, one of Africa’s largest e-commerce platforms, announced a strategic collaboration with Intella, a specialist in Arabic artificial intelligence technologies. The partnership introduces a bold new innovation: voice-powered shopping via the smart assistant Ziila, tailored specifically to understand and interact in the Egyptian dialect.

Ziila Demonstrated Live: A First-of-its-Kind in Arabic Voice Commerce

The launch event featured a live demonstration of the technology in action. Abdellatif Olama, CEO of Jumia Egypt, made the platform’s first-ever voice order using Ziila, showcasing the assistant’s capability and readiness to integrate seamlessly into the daily shopping journey of Egyptian consumers.

Shop by Talking: A Natural, Hands-Free Customer Experience

With Ziila now active on Jumia, users can browse, search, and place orders using simple voice commands, removing the need to type or scroll through menus. Ziila’s strength lies in its advanced natural language processing (NLP) capabilities, which enable it to understand casual, everyday Egyptian Arabic and respond intuitively—just like a real conversation.

Voice Notes, Not Clicks: A More Inclusive Way to Shop

This voice-first interaction mimics the ease of sending a voice note—no text input or screen navigation required. It’s a particularly powerful shift for users who find traditional browsing time-consuming or inconvenient. Ziila makes the shopping experience smoother, faster, and more human-centered, opening the door to a broader audience, including those less comfortable with typing or digital interfaces.
