Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, has officially appointed Eng. Mahmoud Sofrata as Vice President for ICT Markets Development at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). This strategic appointment underscores the ministry’s commitment to accelerating Egypt’s digital economy and strengthening its position as a global ICT hub.
Over 25 Years of Global Tech Leadership
Eng. Mahmoud Sofrata brings more than 25 years of international experience in business development, digital transformation, and strategic leadership at multinational technology leaders including Honeywell and Hewlett-Packard (HP).
His extensive background covers markets across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, Central Asia, and Turkey, coupled with deep expertise in tech entrepreneurship, AI-powered solutions, and renewable energy technologies.
Proven Track Record at Honeywell International
Before joining ITIDA, Sofrata held senior executive positions at Honeywell International in Dubai, where he served as Regional Director of Industrial Safety. In this role, he oversaw multi-regional operations and implemented a five-year growth strategy that achieved sustainable business expansion.
His leadership included driving industrial localization programs such as establishing local manufacturing projects in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and deploying IoT-enabled safety solutions for high-risk sectors including oil & gas and mining.
Driving Innovation Across Education and Enterprise
Sofrata has been at the forefront of innovation through initiatives like Digital Classrooms and Device-as-a-Service (DaaS), accelerating digital transformation in education and enterprise ecosystems. He also spearheaded programs to optimize supply chain efficiency, strengthen sales and distribution networks, expand into new markets across Africa, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, and advance diversity by empowering women in leadership roles.

Since joining ITIDA in 2024 as Director of ICT Markets Development, Sofrata has played a pivotal role in boosting Egypt’s IT and offshoring industries. He led strategic partnerships, market expansion efforts, and investment promotion programs, positioning Egypt as a leading global destination for digital services and outsourcing.
Academic Background and Commitment to Talent Development
Mahmoud Sofrata earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cairo University. Beyond his executive achievements, he is recognized for his passion for talent development, digital skills empowerment, and building high-performance teams capable of meeting the demands of international ICT markets.
