Microsoft and Ericsson have announced a major advancement in enterprise mobility with the integration of enterprise-grade 5G capabilities directly into Windows 11. The joint development is designed to deliver secure, policy-driven laptop connectivity, enabling organizations worldwide to simplify how IT teams deploy, manage, and scale mobile PC fleets.
This collaboration embeds advanced 5G management into the Windows 11 ecosystem, transforming how enterprises handle always-connected devices in a hybrid and AI-driven workplace.
Intune and Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect at the Core
The new solution combines Microsoft Intune device management with Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect, formerly known as Ericsson Enterprise Virtual Cellular Network (EVCN). The platform leverages AI and cloud-based analytics to continuously monitor network quality and automatically adjust connectivity to ensure optimal performance and security.
By integrating AI-based 5G management directly into Windows 11, IT administrators can automate device connectivity, enable seamless switching between communications service providers (CSPs), and enforce enterprise policies across networks without manual intervention.

Automated Policy Enforcement and Secure Connectivity
Through Microsoft Intune and Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect, IT departments can automatically deploy secure connectivity profiles and enterprise policies across all 5G-connected Windows devices. This reduces manual configuration requirements while maintaining consistent compliance and user experience across multiple locations.
The automation capabilities address long-standing barriers to adopting cellular-connected laptops, particularly the complexity of provisioning and maintaining reliable connectivity across different service providers. Enterprises benefit from lower IT overhead, predictable connectivity management, and a secure foundation built on the most cloud-integrated and secure version of Windows.
Enterprise 5G Bundles and Surface Copilot+ PCs
Building on a long-standing partnership between Microsoft and Ericsson, the announcement follows multiple successful pilot programs conducted across various markets. In collaboration with CSPs and global partners, the companies will roll out enterprise 5G bundles featuring Surface Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune, and Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect.
These bundled offerings aim to streamline deployment while enabling organizations to adopt AI-ready devices equipped with secure and intelligent 5G connectivity from day one.
Showcasing the Future at MWC Barcelona 2026
At MWC Barcelona 2026, the world’s largest mobile connectivity exhibition, Microsoft and Ericsson will demonstrate the joint solution’s advanced capabilities and preview future enhancements planned for the platform.
Key features include remote configuration of 5G as a priority network, automatic eSIM switching, and a local AI agent running on a Surface 5G laptop. This AI agent is designed to make context-aware, real-time decisions to optimize connectivity performance and ensure smooth execution of high-value business workflows.

Executive Perspectives on AI-Driven 5G Laptops
Erik Ekudden, Chief Technology Officer at Ericsson, stated that AI-powered 5G laptops are redefining how and where work is performed. He emphasized that, together with Microsoft and leading CSP partners, the companies are enabling organizations to automate deployment and operations of secure, always-connected devices regardless of location, fostering a more intelligent and responsive workplace.
Ian LeGrow, Corporate Vice President, Core OS at Microsoft, highlighted that Windows 11 serves as the optimal enterprise platform for large-scale deployment and management of 5G-connected PCs. He noted that through Microsoft Intune, enterprises can seamlessly provision, manage, and secure both devices and 5G connectivity. He added that the integration of Windows, Intune, Surface, and Ericsson technologies allows organizations to confidently deploy AI-ready PCs while ensuring employees remain secure and productive wherever they work.
Market Availability and Global Expansion Plans
The joint enterprise 5G solution is now available in key markets. In the United States, it launches with T-Mobile; in Sweden with Telenor; in Singapore with Singtel; and in Japan with SoftBank Corp.
Further rollouts are scheduled throughout 2026, including Spain with MasOrange, Germany with O2 Telefónica Germany, and Finland with Elisa, reflecting broad industry support and growing CSP participation.
Additionally, seven leading CSPs have committed to early launch programs, with wider commercial availability expected beginning in the second quarter of 2026.
