TikTok community, influencers and celebrities unite to encourage responsible internet use

TikTok has experienced rapid growth in the region, becoming the leading short-video
platform in Egypt, it is reinforcing its commitment to keeping its users safe— from
launching features to enhancing its policies and controls, to now promoting awareness on
online safety through a new campaign. This new initiative is its latest step in furthering its
commitment to create a safe and positive environment for its users. The #خليك_مسئول
campaign sees famous social media influencers in Egypt joining hands with TikTok to
advocate for responsible internet use, shedding light on TikTok’s comprehensive
community guidelines which help users understand how to use the platform in a positive
and appropriate way.
Led by social media influencers@baherelnewehy,@nurhanabubakr and@azizelakkaad1,
TikTok users were encouraged as part of the #خليك_مسئول in-app hashtag challenge to share their own advises on the responsible internet use as part of the campaign , delivering
a unified message advocating for users to be more responsible. The 3 social media influencers discussed different topics concerning the negative use of social media such as
cyber-bullying, hate speech and misleading news respectively.
The challenge, which has gained more than 2 million views in just a couple of days, aims to educate users on the responsible use of the internet platforms. It encourages users to take an active role in making the digital space more safe, positive and inclusive by avoiding posting or sharing content that include or imply hate, bullying or wrong information. The
campaign also helped them understand the negative impact that such content may have on other users of the internet.
In addition, the campaign highlighted TikTok’s in-app safety measures andcommunity
guidelines that aim to help people understand how to keep the platform a positive and safe
one. TikTok’s community guidelines dont tolerate or endorse cyberbullying ,any content
that supports or advocates for violence, hate, discrimination or any sort of harmful and
socially unacceptable behavior.
Egyptian singer and actor @essamkarika66 supported the challenge by encouraging his fans and other users to refrain from negative online behaviours such as bullying and sharing harsh content online. Musician@youssefismailmusic went the extra mile and created his own original soundtrack named ‘Different and Beautiful’ with the video featuring Egyptians from different backgrounds a. The soundtrack’s lyrics include negative comments that people may use for physical mockery and sends a positive message to the public reminding them that they are beautiful regardless of how others may perceive them.
Among the other TikTok users who supported the campaign’s cause are Nutritionist@dr.rana3amer, Relationship and Parenting Coach@coachrehamallam, Journalist@haniazab3,@esraahosni92,@dr.islammohamed.md and@mustafafawzy.
This campaign comes as part of Tiktok’s ongoing efforts to promote and enhance digital well-being. It comes straight after the platform earlier announced launching its Family Pairing mode which Family Pairing, which allows a parent to link their TikTok account to their teen’s and set controls including:
 
● Screen Time Management:
Screen Time Management is a feature launched by TikTok to help people set limits for how long they spend on TikTok each day, and now Middle East users will start to see Screen Time Management videos in feed.
Restricted Mode:Restrict the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for all
audiences. Even without Family Pairing enabled, parents can help their teen set Screen Time Management and Restricted Mode by visiting the app’s Digital Wellbeing controls at any time.
● Direct Messages:Limit who can send messages to the connected account, or turn off
direct messaging completely. With user safety in mind, Starting April 30, we will be taking
those protections one step further as relates to younger members of our community, and
automatically disabling Direct Messages for registered accounts under the age of 16.
