With $50 Million Investment and 5 Million Units Annually: OPPO Launches Its Industrial Hub in Egypt in the Presence of the Prime Minister

In a significant step reflecting the growing confidence of global tech giants in Egypt’s investment climate, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated today the OPPO smartphone and electronics manufacturing plant in 10th of Ramadan City.

The opening ceremony witnessed high-level attendance, including Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouny, Governor of Sharqia; and Mr. Lai Ren, President of OPPO Middle East and North Africa. Also present were Eng. Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA); Mr. Noah Ma, General Manager of OPPO Egypt; and several company executives.

Madbouly: The Factory Embodies the “Egypt Makes Electronics” Initiative to Boost the Economy and Reduce Imports

Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that the government’s participation in this important event aligns directly with the goals of the presidential initiative “Egypt Makes Electronics”, which aims to transform the electronics industry into one of the main pillars driving Egypt’s economic growth.

He added that the initiative plays a vital role in doubling Egyptian exports, reducing imports of electronic and electrical devices for the local market, and creating thousands of job opportunities while attracting major foreign investments.

Madbouly noted that the initiative has already achieved tangible success — reflected in growing exports, an expanding pool of electronics design professionals, the establishment of new local companies, and the creation of local manufacturing facilities for smartphones, tablets, and fiber optic cables for the first time in Egypt.

Talaat: 2,000 Jobs Created — Egypt Attracts 15 Global Brands for Local Electronics Manufacturing

Minister of Communications Dr. Amr Talaat stated that the opening of the OPPO factory — part of a $50 million investment plan that provides 2,000 job opportunities — exemplifies the fruitful collaboration between the government and the private sector to fulfill the objectives of the “Egypt Makes Electronics” initiative.

He explained that the mobile device governance framework implemented by the Ministry has strengthened the confidence of global companies in Egypt’s investment environment, motivating them to expand their manufacturing operations locally.

According to Talaat, this has positioned Egypt as an attractive destination for international investments in smartphone and electronics manufacturing, successfully drawing 15 global brands with a combined annual production capacity of 20 million units and total investments exceeding $200 million.

Lai Ren: Our Factory Aligns with the Presidential Initiative — We Train Egyptian Talent to Global Standards

Mr. Lai Ren, President of OPPO Middle East and North Africa, said:

“At OPPO, we believe in the transformative power of technology to drive progress, guided by our vision: Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World.

He added that the new factory is not only proof of OPPO’s confidence in the Egyptian market but also a strategic platform for delivering cutting-edge innovations to local consumers and creating promising job opportunities.

Ren emphasized that local manufacturing represents a core pillar of OPPO’s commitment to Egypt and aligns closely with the ‘Egypt Makes Electronics’ initiative. The company is dedicated to training and employing local talent to the highest global standards, ensuring that locally produced devices meet the same quality levels as those manufactured at OPPO’s global headquarters in China.

“We are proud to be an active partner in strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for technology and high-quality manufacturing,” he added.

5 Million Units Annually — Expansion Plans for Exports and Wearable Devices

Prime Minister Madbouly attended a presentation by Mr. Lai Ren, who explained that the factory spans 24,000 square meters and currently employs 2,000 Egyptian engineers, technicians, and workers, all trained to global standards.

The plant’s current production reaches 400,000 units per month — totaling 5 million units annually — with local value-added exceeding 42%, and a plan to increase it further.

Mr. Noah Ma noted that the facility currently includes 17 production lines, with plans to expand to 20 lines by Q1 2026, raising total capacity to 500,000 units per month.

The factory has already begun producing and delivering OPPO devices to the Egyptian market, including the Reno12, Reno13, Reno14, A5 Pro, and A6 Pro series.

Additionally, OPPO plans to start exporting products to Arab markets by the end of next year, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional manufacturing hub. The company also intends to introduce new production lines for wearable devices, including smartwatches, fitness bands, and wireless earbuds in upcoming phases.

Prime Minister Inspects Production Lines and Engages with Factory Employees

During his tour, Prime Minister Madbouly visited various production stages — from motherboard fabrication and surface-mount assembly to testing, cutting, baking, and final assembly — followed by the quality control department and the packaging area.

He also spoke with several young employees, including a female worker who explained that although she had studied aviation hospitality, she transitioned to electronics after receiving specialized technical training.

The workers expressed their appreciation for the company’s comprehensive health, insurance, and financial benefits.

Madbouly: Proud of Egyptian Craftsmanship — A Call for Youth to Join Advanced Industries

Madbouly expressed his deep pride in the skills and precision of Egyptian engineers, technicians, and workers, noting that their products match international standards in quality and technology.

He highlighted that his frequent visits to technology and industrial facilities reaffirm the talent and creativity of Egyptian youth, urging them to engage more in advanced industrial and ICT sectors to secure a better future.

A Major Addition to Egypt’s Electronics Industry — A Fruit of the 2022 OPPO–ITIDA MoU

The Prime Minister described the OPPO factory as a significant addition to Egypt’s electronics manufacturing sector, supporting the goals of industrial localization and economic diversification.

The factory’s opening marks the culmination of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2022 between ITIDA and OPPO, in the presence of the Prime Minister, which laid the foundation for this major industrial project.

Commitment to After-Sales Services and Long-Term Partnership

OPPO’s commitment extends beyond local manufacturing to include world-class after-sales services, ensuring a seamless customer experience and strong consumer confidence in the brand.

The facility currently includes 15 Chinese technical experts providing support, while all production stages are carried out by skilled Egyptian professionals — a testament to the strategic partnership between the public and private sectors driving sustainable and inclusive growth.
