Huawei Unveils Next-Gen Optical Innovations to Power Africa’s AI-Driven Future

The Africa edition of the Global Optical Summit (GOS) 2026 concluded on a high note during the Huawei Intelligent Africa Congress 2026, bringing together more than 300 industry leaders, technology experts, and strategic partners from across the continent. The summit served as a key platform to explore the future of optical networking and its role in accelerating digital and intelligent transformation in Africa.

Huawei Introduces F5G-A Solutions to Drive AI Adoption

During the event, Huawei unveiled its advanced F5G-A solutions alongside a new portfolio of products designed for industry communication networks, all-optical campuses, and fiber sensing applications. These innovations aim to leverage fully optical networks to fast-track the adoption of artificial intelligence across multiple industries.

From Data Pipes to AI-Powered Neural Systems

In his opening remarks, Rock Qin, Vice President of Huawei Northern Africa, emphasized the company’s transformation of optical networks into intelligent systems. He highlighted that, through the development of 400G and 800G backbone networks, deployment of all-optical industrial infrastructures, enhancement of campus solutions, and breakthroughs in fiber sensing technologies, Huawei has evolved traditional networks into AI-enabled “neural systems.” This transformation supports Africa’s journey toward a digitally connected and intelligent future.

Optical-AI Convergence Across Key Industries

Nick Liu, Vice President of Huawei Enterprise Optical Domain, delivered a keynote titled “Optical-AI Convergence, Accelerating AI for All Industries.” He explained that Huawei’s strategy focuses on integrating optical technologies with artificial intelligence to empower sectors such as government, energy, transportation, education, hospitality, and manufacturing. The company has introduced innovative offerings including fgOTN+QKD industry communication networks, all-optical smart substations, iFTTO solutions, and advanced fiber sensing systems for predictive maintenance.

Quantum-Enhanced Security for Critical Sectors

For industries requiring high levels of security, such as government, power, and transportation, Huawei launched an integrated solution combining Optical Transport Network (OTN) with quantum encryption. Featuring the industry’s first integrated Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) board paired with the OptiXtrans E6600 platform, this solution delivers a secure, efficient, and future-proof communication framework capable of addressing emerging quantum threats.

Smart Substations and Transparent IoT Systems

Huawei also introduced its smart substation solution, designed to enable multi-dimensional monitoring and seamless integration of heterogeneous networks. With full IoT coverage and unified access to diverse sensing devices, the solution creates a “transparent station” system that enhances operational efficiency and visibility in power infrastructure.

Upgrading Smart Campuses with iFTTO Technology

In the smart campus segment, Huawei upgraded its Fiber to the Office (FTTO) architecture into the more advanced iFTTO solution. This next-generation approach integrates connectivity, sensing, computing, and management into a single platform. Additionally, the launch of all-optical access points, including OptiXstar W857I and W817I, equipped with IoT and sensing capabilities, provides a unified technological foundation for intelligent campus environments.

Fiber Sensing Innovation for Industrial Efficiency

Targeting heavy industries such as mining, logistics, building materials, and energy, Huawei introduced a fiber sensing solution for conveyor idler health prediction. This technology enables fully automated inspections and real-time detection of abnormal sounds, ensuring zero missed faults and significantly improving operational reliability.

Showcasing Real-World African Success Stories

The summit also highlighted successful implementations across Africa. Ahmed Sorour, Project Director at Engineering Consultants Group (ECG), shared insights into deploying all-optical campus networks, while Dr. Bahaa, Head of Communication, Computers, and Protection at the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), presented practical experiences in building industrial communication networks.

Recognizing Excellence and Industry Contributions

The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring outstanding members of the OptiX Club. These awards recognized partners who have played a significant role in advancing optical technologies and driving intelligent transformation across industries.

A Forward-Looking Vision for Africa’s Digital Future

Looking ahead, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to continuous innovation and deeper collaboration with industry stakeholders. By leveraging emerging opportunities and strengthening partnerships, the company aims to accelerate Africa’s transition toward a fully intelligent and digitally empowered era.
