Nigeria to host GITEX, the world’s largest technology exhibition, in its GITEX Nigeria 2025 edition

In a move aimed at boosting the technology sector, the federal government, through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to host the world’s largest technology fair, GITEX Nigeria, for the first time at the International Exhibition and Conference Center in Lagos, scheduled for September 2025.

The agreement was signed by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General and CEO of NITDA, and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, the organizers of GITEX. Inuwa affirmed that hosting GITEX Nigeria will provide a unique experience for technology conferences in the country.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed agenda for economic reform, as Inuwa pointed out the importance of openness to global trade and the impossibility of succeeding in isolation. He added that economic prosperity increasingly depends on the ability to interact with global markets.

President Tinubu’s directives include enhancing the development of new industries and encouraging innovation, contributing to the creation of a conducive environment for technological advancement. Inuwa stated, “We must build bridges with the rest of the world and leverage these connections to boost economic growth.”

For her part, Trixie LohMirmand expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the impressive performance of Nigerian teams in GITEX competitions. She confirmed that Nigeria is the fastest-growing country for developers in Africa, offering vast potential for untapped talent.

“By hosting GITEX Nigeria, we aim to explore the country’s potential in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital health, and fintech,” she said. She noted that the initiative seeks to integrate the Nigerian tech landscape with the broader GITEX network, providing a platform for startups to connect with new markets.

While this agreement represents a significant step towards positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global tech scene, it reaffirms President Tinubu’s commitment to economic diversification and international trade integration.
