The Middle East’s leading integrated internet platform, Careem, celebrated8 years since its inception and start of operations in 2012, last July. The first trip ever operates by Careem has took place that year in the city of Dubai, and today, they are operating in 100 cities in 13 countries in the Middles East, Africa and Pakistan.
Throughout the past 8 years, Careem has managed to offer an excelling performance and services in the company’s trips with an accumulated distance that reached 7.4 billionkms!
Believing in the importance of giving back to the communities in which they operate, Careem managed to donate an accumulated amount of USD 1.3 Mn through its different initiatives dedicated for NGOs and charities. This has been achieved through the innovative system “CareemRewards Program” that also allows the customers to redeem their pointsthat reached total of 50 million in the region, which equals USD 15 Mn, offering variable benefits.
The 8th year also marks Careem’s celebrationof the “Super App” launch, to be added to the company’s record of accomplishment. The Super App is the first of its kinds in the region serving more than 33 million users. This step comes in line with the company’s continuous efforts to tailor better services for the comfort of the clients and address all the details of the trip including the return of lost items in the rides.
With the celebration of the 8th birthday, Careem Egypt is also celebrating the arrival of a new GM, as the company announced the appointment of HaithamEssam in the position of the General Manager. This comes in line with the continuous efforts of the company to renew its management and enrich it with more calibers with a vision to improve and update the services of Careem Egypt, in addition to increasing its market share.

It is noteworthy that HaithamEssam is one of the pioneers of the business sector with nearly 20 years of experience in the field of e-commerce, strategies, management consulting, online travel and financial services. He also has extensive experience in strategic planning, operational efficiencies management, and profit and loss management. Prior to joining Careem, he worked with several companies including Etisalat, Agoda, Peppers & Rogers Group and Capgemini. He founded Targemli, a multi-million dirham revenue company with three branches in the Middle East and now works as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors.
