Orange Digital Center “ODC” Announces the Winners of Orange Summer Challenge 2022

Orange Digital Center (ODC) has announced the four winning teams of the Orange Summer Challenge in a competition revolving around agriculture technology, which was held for the first time in Egypt in collaboration with Google and EY and was supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). This is one of the ODC’s most significant achievements in Egypt, given the ODC’s conscious efforts to develop the country’s young business community and encourage innovation and creativity.
During the activities of the Orange Summer Challenge Awards 2022, which were held at the headquarters of the Orange Digital Center, the participants showcased their innovative projects to a diverse audience of ICT specialists and experts. The final four winning projects were awarded prizes paid on their Orange Cash wallets, after developing four distinct technological solutions.
The “InSoil” project came in the first place with its system that monitors soil elements and effectively manages resources and organic matter, which improves agricultural product quality and saves farmers’ money. The second place was awarded to Aqua Rai project with their small-scale automatic drip irrigation system for urban farming lands. The “NakhlaTech” project ranked third with their service that automates dates harvesting in order to reduce crop waste. The Sabeel team came in the fourth place with their project that addresses cleaning grey water to be re-used in farming through portable water filtration and storage solution.
Orange Summer Challenge is an annual event that targets innovative young people, aimed at boosting innovative technological solutions related to “Tech4Good” topics for the sake of community development. Its activities kicked off in Egypt three months ago and concluded with a huge ceremony hosted by ODC to honor the winning teams. Through the Orange Digital Centers network, the challenge activities began concurrently in Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia, Madagascar, Mali, Jordan, Burkina Faso, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Commenting on the occasion, Noel Chateau, Chief Transformation and Operational Efficiency Officer at Orange Egypt expressed his pride for hosting the first Orange Summer Challenge that reflected the strong innovative capabilities of young Egyptians.
“I am truly impressed by the quality of the projects presented. This competition has harnessed the power of digital innovation by young Egyptians and is supporting them to maximize their chances of success”. “Agri-tech is one of the most promising and relevant field of innovation in Egypt and we are proud that the Orange Summer Challenge contributed to it thanks to these passionate students” added Noel.
Andreas Adrian, Coordinator of the Technical Education and Labour Market Development (TELM) Cluster at GIZ Egypt, expressed his happiness with the announcement of winners of Orange Summer Challenge.
