Saudi Arabia is set to take part in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2026, scheduled from July 7 to 15 in New York. The annual gathering brings together UN member states to assess global progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Agenda.
Kingdom to Present Third Voluntary National Review
As part of its participation, Saudi Arabia will present its 2026 Voluntary National Review (VNR), offering a detailed evaluation of national progress toward the SDGs. This marks the Kingdom’s third review following submissions in 2018 and 2023, delivering a comprehensive overview of achievements, challenges, and future priorities aligned with sustainable development objectives.
Broad National Participation Reflecting Inclusive Approach
The Saudi SDGs report reflects a collaborative and inclusive national effort, incorporating contributions from more than 140 entities across government, private sector, academia, civil society, and international partners. This approach highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to aligning Vision 2030 with the global SDG framework.
High-Level Delegation Led by Minister of Economy and Planning
The Saudi delegation will be led by His Excellency Faisal F. Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning, and includes representatives from 14 prominent entities spanning public, private, and non-profit sectors. These include key ministries and organizations such as the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Education, Saudi Fund for Development, Expo 2030 Riyadh Company, and several national institutions.

Forum Theme and Key Development Goals in Focus
HLPF 2026 is held under the theme:
“Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all.”
This year’s forum will focus on reviewing progress across five key SDGs: clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17).
Active Participation in Sessions and Global Discussions
Saudi Arabia will actively engage in the forum through official statements, thematic reviews, general debates, ministerial sessions, and town hall meetings. These engagements aim to strengthen the Kingdom’s role in advancing global sustainability dialogue.
Side Events and Exhibition Highlight National Achievements
The Kingdom will also host a series of side events and an accompanying exhibition. Among the initiatives is the official Saudi event titled:
“Rethinking SDG Delivery Through Prioritization and Implementation Approaches,”
Additionally, the exhibition “Advancing Sustainability in Saudi Arabia” will showcase key national initiatives and achievements supporting sustainability goals.
HLPF: A Global Platform for Sustainable Development
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is held annually under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It serves as a leading international platform for tracking progress, sharing best practices, and fostering global cooperation toward achieving the SDGs.
